Shadfly photo contest winners announced

by | Jun 27, 2021

Our shadfly photo contest attracted entries in each of the three categories: solo shad, mass gatherings and night shots.

The solo shad category was tough to judge but the top prize goes to Brandi Cramer.

Brandi’s winning photo (meme suggested by editor, don’t blame her!):

Honourable mention to Nancy Avery who kicked off the contest with this entry:

Rich Coffin won the mass shads category with this photo and “slightly edited” meme suggestion:

Honourable mention to Erika Lougheed for her submission below (meme added by editor, can’t blame her for the groaner!):

The night time category was won by Shawn Grzybouski, who captured a large black cloud of shadflies crossing Highway 17 West by the light of a full moon at dusk.

Each first-place winner will receive $30 and vouchers for two three-edition subscriptions (worth $30 each, delivery must be in the North Bay area)
and either a Back in the Bay hat or T-shirt, depending on preference and availability.

Honourable mention prizes include vouchers for two three-edition subscriptions (worth $30 each, delivery must be in the North Bay area).

Thank you to all who submitted entries.

Dave Dale

Writer, photographer and proud father. My mom's family is from the Soo with its Algoma Highlands, dad hailed from Cobden in the Ottawa Valley and I spent my teen years in Capreol. Summers were at the beach on the Vermillion River and winters at 'The Rink.' Born in East York but Toronto never was my thing. Ever since a kid looking out the window on long trips, I imagined living on the highway in a little house with a big yard and trees growing all around me.
